Relationship counselling services

Different relationships need different kinds of support. You might want a focused conversation about one particular issue, ongoing counselling to change recurring patterns, more support through a relationship crisis, or a chance to build strong foundations in something new.

Here's a quick guide to the different ways we can work.

Tuning Up

A focused two-hour relationship consultation

Your relationship isn't in crisis, but something could work better. Perhaps you're getting caught in the same argument, struggling with communication, feeling less connected, or facing a particular decision in your relationship.

A Tuning Up session gives you two hours to step back, understand what's happening between you and get an experienced outside perspective. We'll identify the patterns that may be getting in the way and focus on practical things you can take away and try.

One focused session. No commitment to ongoing counselling.

Closer Harmony

Ongoing couples and relationship counselling

Some relationship patterns are harder to shift in a single session. You may be arguing repeatedly, feeling emotionally or sexually disconnected, struggling to communicate, or finding that old hurts keep resurfacing.

In ongoing counselling, we'll look beneath the arguments to understand the patterns between you, the experiences you each bring to the relationship, and what keeps those patterns going. The aim isn't to decide who is right. It's to help you understand what's happening, change what isn't working and find healthier ways of relating to one another.

Removing Discord

Support through crisis, rupture or separation

An affair. A loss of trust. A serious rupture. The possibility of separation or divorce. Sometimes something happens that changes the relationship profoundly — or brings long-standing difficulties to a head.

At these points it can be difficult to have useful conversations without becoming overwhelmed, defensive or stuck.

Counselling provides a structured place to slow things down, understand what has happened and decide what comes next. That may mean rebuilding the relationship. In some cases, it may mean working towards a more thoughtful separation.

More frequent or longer sessions can be considered where appropriate.

The Overture

A one-off two-hour session for newer relationships

New relationships don't have to be in trouble to benefit from a good conversation.

The Overture is a one-off two-hour session for people in newer relationships who want to build strong foundations from the beginning.

We'll explore some of the things that can become surprisingly difficult to talk about later: communication, conflict, sex and intimacy, money, family, boundaries, expectations, independence, commitment and what you each bring from previous relationships and experiences.

Think of it as premarital counselling without needing to be getting married — a chance to understand one another better and establish some useful ground rules while the relationship is new.

One two-hour session. No ongoing commitment.

Not sure which is right?

You don’t need to diagnose your relationship or choose the “right” therapy before getting in touch.
